The Green Card Test

The registration card, Form I-551, populary known as "green card" is issued by the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) after passing the so called "green card test". The test has the aim to establish an alien individual as a lawful citizen of the United States of America. In order to be accepted as a candidate of the green card test, the individual must claim nativity in a country which has a lower immigration rate to the United States and a medical test. There is a quota which limits the number of green cards that can be issued within one year. However, this quota does not affect the green card by marriage, which means green cards issued to individuals who are married to or plan to marry a United States Citizen. Other ways to obtain a green card are through a job with an American based business or through refugee or asylee status or different special website suggestions.

The test itself includes 100 civic questions and answers you can check here. Additional subjects are American government, history, geography and tradition. Also, the canditate must prove a certain fluency in English, writing and reading one sentence out of three correctly. The candidate´s oral abilities are tested in an interview.
There is a considerable quantity of study material about the green card test and filing procedures available on internet, either by downloading files or ordering printed literature. Most of it is available in English and Spanish.
